Some states allow registration as an off-highway vehicle (OHV) for trail and private land use. Check your state's DMV rules before riding on public roads.

For off-road/private land riding, no license is required in most states. If you register the bike as street legal (where allowed), you'll typically need a motorcycle license or endorsement, just like a gas dirt bike converted for street use.

Electric dirt bikes are quieter, need far less maintenance (no oil changes, no carburetor, no exhaust), and deliver instant torque. Gas dirt bikes still win on range and refuel speed — a gas tank takes 2 minutes to fill, while an electric battery takes 1-3 hours to charge. For neighborhood riding, trails near home, or noise-restricted areas, electric wins. For long backcountry days, gas still has the edge.
